Dutchess-Cardigan Complex

That's what the soil here is called. Sounds like something I saw at those Rhinebeck boutiques yesterday. But anyway...

The soil is a well-drained silt loam, undulating, rolling, & rocky (duh) in these parts.

In between fields it seems we have Palms Muck in the swampy areas. THAT sounds like a condition well-known to a pig farmer. Ha. Okay, enough.

USDA Hardiness Zone 5b (with low temps being down to -15*)

Mean Annual Precipitation 41-47"

And Frost-Free for 115-195 days. That's a lot of growing potential. A little more than half of the whole year.
